Because it offers better chances of winning than most other casino games, Blackjack is one of the most well-liked and popular casino games that also made it big in online casinos. It is also known in gambling circles as the Lucky 21 game, in reference to the winning card value in the game. Regular blackjack games play with only a single deck of cards, but some blackjack games already involve more than one deck. This is the house’s response to the famous blackjack counting strategies that have come up among players. No matter how the game is modified, it seems that it only gets better and more enticing for players.

The main objective of the blackjack game is to get a hand which contains cards that add up to a total card value of 21, which is called a blackjack and signals an automatic win. Blackjacks are paid out at 3:2. If no one gets a blackjack, the player with the total card value that is higher than the dealer’s card value wins. Once the total card value of a hand exceeds 21, this results to what is called as a bust, which equates to an automatic loss.

The focus of the blackjack game, or what makes it exciting, are the values given to the cards. The cards from two up to ten are taken at face values. The face cards are valued at 10, while the ace cards can either be a 1 or an 11. This means that the bets possible hand in blackjack contains an ace card and a face card or a ten card, which sums up to a 21 total value.

A blackjack game online and otherwise both begins with the placing of bets. After all the bets are in, the dealer will deal two cards for each player. These cards will be dealt face up. After that, the dealer will also deal two cards for himself. The first card will be dealt face up, but the second will be kept concealed. The dealer’s second card will be the determining factor of the game.

If the dealer’s face up card is neither an ace nor a ten, then the players get a chance to play their hands. They have several options at this point. They can either stand or hit. A stand means to stay with the present cards, while a hit is to ask for one or more cards to improve the player’s hand. Players can keep on hitting until he stands or until he exceeds 21 and busts. Other than these two basic moves, players can also double, split, or surrender. Doubling means to double the player’s bet and ask for just one more card. This happens when a player is confident about his present cards and is hopeful about the next card he will get. A split means to split a hand into two hands, which is done usually when a player has two matching cards. A surrender means to concede, lose the bets, and not play anymore.

In playing blackjack, whether online or not, it is good to choose the game you will join. There are plenty of blackjack strategies around, but the best option is to choose one that suits you best and stick to it. Finally, don’t be afraid to surrender when you need to.

How To Spot A Dangerous Poker Player

By: Alan England

Let’s examine what we think a dangerous player is to us. Players that we respect, fear, admire, and would like to imitate, all at the same time. Most of us have heard the old saying, “If you don’t know who the fish is in the game after the first fifteen minutes, then it’s you.” Let us take this one step further, and look at it a bit differently. “If you don’t know who the most dangerous player in your game is within the first fifteen minutes, then you don’t belong in that game.” This of course does not apply if you happen to be the most dangerous player in the game. Let us assume that you are not the most dangerous player in the game, and want to know who is. What traits would look for to find out? It is just as important to know the player that you should fear in a game, as it is to know which players you can intimidate, or out-play.

Question

What would you consider the traits to look for to judge whether a player can be dangerous competition to you in (Hold’em, Stud, Omaha etc.) A player that you would consider “dangerous” in so far as deceitful play, changing gears, betting or raising strategy, that would cause you to play very carefully against him.

Opinion 1

I would consider a dangerous player one that I could rarely put on a hand. A player who appears to play a generally proper tight and aggressive game, but is still deceptive enough to surprise you repeatedly when they do show down a hand.

Opinion 2

There are two kinds of dangerous players. The first is dangerous because they are very stupid. The second is dangerous because they are very good. Some of the specific behaviors I look for to recognize dangerous players are,

(1) When the flop falls, they watch the players, not the cards.

(2) They are capable of raising and releasing a hand in the same betting round.

(3) They never voluntarily show a hand.

(4) They induce bluffs on the river. This last one is the subtlest of the four and may be one of best indicators of a dangerous player.

Opinion 3

Some of the traits that I look for in someone that I consider dangerous:

1) They are aggressive

2) They consistently makes good decisions

3) They do not play many hands, but when they do, they win a very high percentage of them.

4) They allow nothing to adversely affect their game

Let me get slightly off-track for a second. This is not one of the signs of a dangerous player. Years ago one of the things that used to intimidate me, and make me think someone was a dangerous player, was when I was seated in a game in an unfamiliar card room. I would then notice that one or more of the players personally knew, and were friends with each other, and the dealer. I always suspected them of being good players because they knew everyone, and must be good because they played regularly. I figured that they knew how each other played, so they only had to concentrate in learning how I played. I, in turn had to watch how all of them played to pick up any information. This was a much more difficult task. It didn’t take me long to see that I had did not have to fear players who were strangers to me, but were friends with the other people in the game, and even knew the dealer’s grandmothers maiden name. I found that many of them still played worse poker than I could have ever imagined.

When I sit down in a game I never judge anyone by his or her appearance. I judge them by how well they play, after watching them in action. Some people think that just looking the part, will put fear into the hearts of the other players. Me, I watch the quiet ones, those who just sit back and take in all the action, I call these types “chameleons”. It is the chameleon’s that blend cleverly into the game background, that you have to worry about. They are not loudmouths, they do not brag, give lessons, or berate other players.

They just sit there and wait quietly to ambush you. I am also interested in a player who can raise pre-flop and then dump the hand after the flop, if bet into or raised. These players are not afraid to release what may have started out as a great hand, but went South on the flop or the turn. When I pick out a dangerous player at my table, I will be very selective what hands I play against him, especially if he is on a rush. I will fancy-dance around him with any hands that are not premium. When he bets, and I am holding hands that I might play against a weaker opponent, I usually throw them away. What it all boils down to is this, you want all the behaviors of a dangerous player. If you have these same qualities, you will be the dangerous player, and the person that everyone will have to worry about.

Having Fun with Live Roulette

Online gamers play live roulette mostly for the excitement the experience brings. When playing with live roulette, a player gets to interact with a live dealer through the use of a webcam. This is very much different from the usual way that traditional online casinos offer roulette and other casino games. In traditional online casinos, a player only gets to play with software.

Many online gamblers love the experience of playing roulette with a live dealer; a lot of them, in fact, prefer gambling with live dealers rather than with just software. It could be conveniently surmised that bringing live dealers into the game of roulette brings back the social aspect that is reminiscent of playing in an actual brick-and-mortar casino, something that online casinos could not replicate prior to this recent trend in live dealers.

How does bringing in live dealers into the game bring back the social aspect for people who play live roulette? If you have not been in a brick-and-mortar casino, you would have at least seen movies portraying how hot and exciting the game of roulette can be. A hot roulette table where there have been plenty of winnings is surrounded by noisy and excited people. Such an excitement can be catching. You do not get that same kind of thrill when playing with just software.

With roulette manned with live dealers, it is possible to capture the social aspect that traditional online casinos have taken out of the roulette with the use of software. Aside from the face-to-face interaction, so to speak, which the player has with the live dealer, the player also gets to interact verbally and visually with his/her fellow players at the table. They can see what the others are doing and they can hear each other talk.

But of course, inasmuch as gamers play roulette and other casino games for fun, they also need to make even just a little profit from the time and money they throw away whenever they play online casino games, not just roulette. With roulette, there is no sure-fire way of winning, but you can extend your bankroll for as long as you can and certainly get some cash back if you know how to play the odds.

First of all, you should avoid playing American roulette as much as you can. Because American roulette has both the 0 and the 00 on the wheel, the house edge is pegged at 5.26%. Compare that to the 2.7% house edge of European roulette, which has only one 0.

Another thing you should avoid when playing roulette is betting on single number bets. Each single number bet has odds of 1:35, which is far too big a risk. Instead of single number bets, go for the even bets, such as even/odd or black/red, low/high. The odds here are better at 1:1.

It is perfectly fine to play live roulette for fun. After all, that is why we all play our games for, to have some fun. But if you can scratch a little profit from your game, then you should go for it.
